Where to begin?
Really, I have no idea how to begin. I suppose it’s not surprising that I jumped right into purchasing a domain and starting a website without a plan. In fact, this is the second website I’ve started this month!
Don’t judge me!
The facts. As good a starting place as any other, I suppose. I’m 42 years old, male, married with one child. While I was always aware that I was different, I did not have the language for it until recently. As life became more complicated, it also became harder for me to do what I now know is called emotional regulation.
After decades of wondering why my brain seems to operate differently, a friend of mine showed me a Ted talk from a guy who was diagnosed with ADHD with the caption “You,” and honestly, it kinda clicked. Since then, I've spent a considerable amount of time researching autism, ADHD, and the overlap between the two, and the explanation has resonated with my experiences in ways nothing else has.
So now, at 42, I've begun looking at my life through a very different lens, and I’d like to take you along with me! I think it’s worth it, and that’s saying something coming from me!
Sure, I hope this project will eventually pay for itself. But I'd also like to document what happens as I try to move from the difficulties of my early life into something more fruitful, happy, and healthy — with enough good cheer left over to share.
Anyway, that's where this story begins. I have a lot to learn, a lot to try, and probably a few things to get spectacularly wrong along the way. So come along. Let's figure this thing out.
